Turn the beat around

Music has been a part of improv for a while now, but only a few forego a soundtrack in favor of mouth percussion. The Beatbox, a Chicago-based offshoot ensemble of North Carolina’s Dirty South Improv Theater, fuses hip-hop beats, freestyle lyrics and unscripted hilarity—founder Rene Duquesnoy, center, drops some sound (and saliva) and the cast jumps in with rhymes. Its ComedySportz run begins Friday 29; if you like what you hear, check out Adventure Club, a snappy, stylin’ duo returning to the Playground starting March 14.
