    Time Out Chicago / Issue 141 : Nov 8–14, 2007
    The Pizza Issue

    The upper crust

Who has the best pizza in Chicago? We search through thick and thin to find out. Plus, we go on the hunt for an authentic “New York slice,” name the best beers and wines to go with your pie, and find out who’s the fastest at delivering hot cheesey goodness to your door.

    By TOC Staff

Best of ’za bunch: We find the best deep dish, bar-style thin and Neapolitan pizza in the city.

Easy as pie: How do you make the perfect Margherita pizza at home? Four local chefs share their secrets.
A little slice of life: The glorious pie has come a long way to get to its deep-dish home in Chicago.
Big Apple pie: In the land of deep dish, a New Yorker searches for Gotham-style slices.
Door to door: When it comes to tasty, punctual pies, which pizzerias deliver?
Through thick and thin: A room full of hungry, opinionated Chicagoans weigh in on which pizza style reigns supreme.
Slinging sauce: Ms. Beer Geek and Mr. Oeno Files battle it out over which beverage is pizza’s proper partner.
Extra toppings: For lovers of crust and clams, these pizza joints serve a slice that's nice.

Eddie and Forde> We actually did hit those places, and many of them made the list. Our food editor, Heather Shouse, discusses them in a comment at the bottom of this page: http://www.timeout.com/chicago/article/24111/best-of-za-bunch

Having grown up on the South Side with a 11 year transplant to the NS and now back South, I find the article informative, but lacking. Where are the old southside haunts like Vito & Nicks, Fox's, Palermos, Roseanglos, the original Home Run Inn, etc. and the Northside landmarks like Pete's, Art of Pizza, D'Agostino's and Pats. It seems like the new has replaced the old which is dissappointing because your publication typically goes out of its way to find the many great "ole' time joints" that this city has on both the north and south side.

Regarding the best pizza. You guys have to be a joke. Let me guess... predominately, your staff are tranplanters. You only hit the near southwest side. Okay, I give you Vito & Nicks. Great ZA, but the southside has so may pizza joints that you never even saw. Stop looking to lakeview and Lincon Park. There are hidden secrets in Chicago and the burbs especially on the south side. Start looking!!!
