Blue Nile Restaurant (6118 N Ravenswood Ave, 773-465-6710). It’s tucked in a strip mall in the middle of nowhere, so we feel perfectly comfortable calling this place a hidden gem. When you find it, order lots of tej—you’ll need it to put out the fire of the spicy (but addictive) steak tartare dish, kifto.
Demera Ethiopian (4801 N Broadway, 773-334-8787). The newest African spot in Chicago is also one of the busiest, having scored a great location across the street from the Green Mill. But ration out sips of your African beer—this place is already notorious for its slow service, so there’s no telling when you’ll get another one.
Ras Dashen Ethiopian Restaurant (5846 N Broadway, 773-506-9601). In the middle of Broadway’s strip of African restaurants (that is, if you can call a half-dozen African joints over 12 blocks a “strip”), this popular Ethiopian joint gets praise for its beverages—from the house-roasted coffee to the extensive beer selection. (The food ain’t bad, either.)

I don't think that an african asking for beer is a weird thing. I think it's because we don't grow grapes in african and the other thing is that wine is expensive. Beer is cheap even those people who leave in the slams of kenya and eat sukuma wiki can afford a bottle of beer.

It is such a wonderful thing that at last we have an african restaurant which Africans can go to and enjoy the taste of africa even though the restaurant does serve east african food, it is the pride of africa and and we can all unite under it's roof.
