Chicago’s Motorola introduced the mobile phone in 1984. What were some of its features?
a) Included trailer hitch for easy portability
b) A half-hour of talk time between each recharge
c) 10-foot fold-up antenna
d) Doubled as the wacky robot, the Roboz, in the TV series Riptide

Answer: b. You had to talk fast if you wanted to get a few conversations in before the first mobile phone’s battery went kaput. You also needed to be pretty strong and wealthy: It weighed nearly two pounds and cost $3,995 when it debuted.
