Local movers and shakers in the music biz predict how Chicago’s scene will change in the next five years.

    Nan Warshaw, co-owner, Bloodshot Records

“I can’t look that far ahead. [Laughs] I don’t want to assume that we’ll be around in five years. But at the same time, of course, we’re working toward longevity. Five years ago, I wouldn’t have predicted that we’d be here today. Bloodshot started as a hobby, and we’ve been lucky to work with a number of brilliant artists we love. And as long as we can keep doing that and pay the bills, we’re gonna be here. Now, in terms of selling music, God only knows where that is going. Digital sales, as fast as they’re going, are not making up for the lack of physical sales. So who knows who will survive? Artists certainly have more direct access to fans, but the need for labels is there as much as ever in terms of publicity, promotion and marketing—all that still has to be done in the digital sales world.”
