TOP DOGS UNITED CENTER AND ARAGON BALLROOM
RISING THREAT SEARS CENTRE
While pop-music fans have been conditioned to the dismal acoustics of the Aragon and United Center, the truth is big venues don’t have to be aural disasters. The year-and-a-half–old Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, which books mainstream country, rock and pop acts, proves that point. By holding about 10,000 fewer seats than the United Center—and eschewing the pack-’em-in-like-sardines philosophy of most big venues—Sears Centre delivers crystalline sound and enough elbow room in which to enjoy it. And if you want such a clear view of the stage that you can make out what kind of jeans George Strait wears (Wrangler, by the way), the sight lines are fantastic. What’s more, Sears Centre provides another venue for country fans; other than Joe’s on Weed (another spot known for poor sound), few clubs regularly book the music. If the Sears Centre calendar so far is any indication, contemporary country will have a decent place to call home in Chicago.

Now THAT's telling it like it is! Thanks for the unsolicited plus, Matthew.
