    The weddings issue

    Rich bride, poor bride

With the economy in the toilet, only the megarich have the cash for a decadent wedding. Here’s how to mimic an over-the-top, $55,000 Saturday-night nuptial with 150 guests for a cool $5,500.

    The glamorous cake

    $55K wedding
A tiered cake from the Cakegirls can be bedecked with sugar roses and hydrangeas in colors to match your flowers. With flavors like vanilla butter cake with mango cream and chocolate fudge cake with praline crunch buttercream, these cakes taste as wonderful as they look. From $975 plus $40 delivery charge; 2207 W Belmont Ave (773-404-3147).

    $5.5K wedding
No need to chuck the idea of planting fetching foliage on your dessert. Buy edible crystallized flowers from Sur La Table (755 W North Ave, 312-787-5111; $39.99 for a packet of 25) and recruit friends to sprinkle them on plain iced cupcakes from Creative Cakes, which are just $1.25 each. (16649 Oak Park Ave, unit F, Tinley Park, 708-614-9755).

We ordered our flowers from Sam's Club.com They were stunning, hydrangeas and gerbera daisies- we had two arrangements per table for 14 tables, arrangements for the head table, cake table, gift table and by the food- and a bouquet ALL for under $120. I got more compliments on my flowers than I ever expected from a Sam's Club purchase

We got our flowers from Trader Joe's the day before our wedding, and ribbon and pins from JoAnne's Fabrics. Total cost - $85. A friend assembled the 4 bouquets, and 16 corsages and boutonnieres for the wedding party, family and ushers.
