    Haunted Sanitarium

    Chicago Park District Halloween Activities
    Family activities including pumpkin carvings, haunted houses, parties and more take place throughout the month at parks around the city. Locations, times and prices vary. For a complete list, visit chicagoparkdistrict.com. Through Oct 31.

    Dream Reapers Haunted House
    This 22-room house contains 14,000 square feet of gory scenes. Fancy animatronics and a cast of more than 40 actors attempt to scare your pants off. 1945 Cornell Ave, Melrose Park (dreamreapers.com). Fridays and Saturdays 7–11pm; Sun 14, Oct 18, 21, 25, 28–31 7–10pm. Through Oct 31. $15.

    Dungeon of Doom Haunted House
    The Ultimate Exorcist and Extreme Asylum are two of the house’s tried-and-true scares. New attractions include Skin’d Alive and the Barbed Wire Corridor. Lake County Fairgrounds, 50 Hwy 45, Grayslake (262-553-9003, dungeonofdoom.com). Oct 18, 24, 25 7–10pm; Oct 29, 30, 31 7pm–late. Fridays 7pm–late. Saturdays 6:30pm–late. Through Oct 31. $14.

    Eleventh Hour
    Try to escape a shadowy, winding labyrinth and be careful not to fall prey to its optical illusions. 434 E Devon Ave, Elk Grove Village (eleventhhour.info). Oct 18–22 7–11pm. Oct 25–Nov 2 7–11pm. Through Nov 2. $17, advance $15.

    Frightmare Haunted House
    In its 17th year, this haunted house debuts a new creepy campground theme. Think ghost stories and bullying boy scouts—okay, we made that last one up. 7759 S Harlem Ave, Burbank (708-598-8580). Mondays–Thursdays 6–10pm; Fridays 6–11pm; Saturdays 1–5pm, 6–11pm; Sundays 1–5pm, 6–10pm. Through Oct 31. $8.75.

    Haunted Harvest
    This farm has been transformed into a festival with spooky games, haunted miniature golf and the Train of Terror. Lambs Farm, 14245 W Rockland Rd, Libertyville (847-362-4636, lambsfarm.org). Saturdays 6–10pm. $15, kids under 3 free.

    Haunted Sanitarium
    Visit what used to be an actual lakeside sanitarium and walk through each themed, creepy room. Theater on the Lake, 2401 N Lake Shore Dr at Fullerton Pkwy (312-742-7994). Fri 12, Oct 19, 22–26, 29–31 7–11pm; Sat 13, Sun 14, Oct 20, 21, 27, 28 6–11pm. Through Oct 31. $10, students $8.

    Navy Fear: Demons of the Deep
    Angry spirits emerge from watery graves at this compound filled with the remains of those who perished at sea. This year the haunted house is split into two different scare levels: Demons Mild (12 and under) and Demons Wild. Navy Pier, 600 E Grand Ave at Streeter Dr (312-595-5225). El: Red to Grand. Bus: 29, 65, 66 (24 hrs). Demons Mild: Fri 12, Sat 13 Oct 19, 20, 27, 29–31 4–8pm; Sun 14, Oct 21, 24–26, 28 noon–8pm. Demons Wild: Fri 12 and Sat 13, Oct 19, 20, 28–31 8–10pm; Oct 26, 27 8pm–midnight. Through Oct 31. $14.

    Oracle Productions presents: Disturbed II
    This live-action horror spectacle uses special effects to create chilling scenes of murders and more. 3809 N Broadway (773-244-2980, oracletheatre.org). Fri 12–Sun 14, Oct 18–21, 25–31, 8–11:30pm;  shows every half hour. Through Oct 31. $7

    Richardson Corn Maze
    Wind through two of the world’s largest mazes, covering 33 acres. After you make it out, take a ride down the 50-foot slide and roast s’mores over the campfire. For a special scare, the mazes are haunted on Halloween. 9407 Richardson Rd, Spring Grove (815-675-9729, richardsonfarm.com). Thursdays and Wednesdays 3–11pm; Fri 12, 19 3pm–midnight; Oct 13, 20 10am–midnight; Sundays noon–11pm. Oct 26 3pm–2am; Oct 27 10am–2am. Through Oct 31. $9.50, seniors $7, kids 13–18 $8.50, kids 5–12 $7, kids under 5 free. 

    Statesville Haunted Prison (featuring City of the Dead)
    Make your way through the dim, dank cells of this maximum-security prison, where the world’s worst criminals are parodied. 17250 S Weber Rd, Crest Hill (877-722-7332, statesville.org). Fridays, Saturdays 7–11pm; Thursdays, Sundays 7–10pm; Oct 29, 30, 31, 7–10pm. Through Oct 31. $30.

    Supernatural Chicago
    Neil Tobin mixes real Chicago ghost stories with magic and psychic demonstrations. Excalibur, 632 N Dearborn Ave at W Ontario St (312-266-1944, supernaturalchicago.com). Fridays and Saturdays except Oct 27 7:30pm. $25.
