When Hugh Hefner and his harem of blonds from the The Girls Next Door TV series came to town to sign copies of their November cover shoot for Playboy, we were afforded only a few minutes of the native Chicagoan's time. But we did come to learn this about the pajama man:
*He's slowing down as he approaches his 80th birthday in April, cutting back from seven to three ladies on his arm. "Part of it is emphasizing quality over quantity," Hef says.
*He's not happy cozying up to just one baseball team, either. "[When it comes to the ALCS], I have split emotions, you know. When I'm here, I hope it's the Sox, when I get back to L.A., I root for the Angels."
*Those rumors that he's about to sire another child with girlfriend No. 1, Holly Madison, are just rumors (supposedly started by some reporter).
*Before he started Playboy, he wanted to launch a Chicagocentric magazine. "But I couldn't get the money [to back it]," Hef says, "so I started Playboy." Teenage boys across the country and Playboy Mansion hangers-on like Pauly Shore are counting their blessings.—Tim McCormick
