Close knit
Danish-born Anni Holm, the artist behind the ongoing performance piece NetWorking, takes bright red yarn to various locations—from the bustling Thompson Center (pictured) to the Museum of Contemporary Art—and invites passersby to join in on knitting a huge swath resembling a net (note the title’s pun). “The network gets documented in the knitting, but networking also exists between the participants. And people are able to really relax when they knit,” she says. During this January 16 performance, Holm witnessed her artwork in action: “One woman was out job hunting and two women just got laid off today, so they were talking about jobs, and they exchanged information. It was nice to see that something positive could come out of it.” Join NetWorking on Sunday 27 and February 24 at Orleans Street Gallery (4051 E Main St, St. Charles) and February 13 at the Thompson Center (100 W Randolph St).
