WE’RE IN(TO) A PICKLE We know, we know: True Chicagoans are supposed to prefer classic spears of mild pickles and neon-green relish. And trust us, every time we look at the label of McClure’s Pickles and see it mentions Detroit and Brooklyn, with no word about Chicago, it stings. And yet, there’s something about these jars that keeps us opening them. The spicy pickle recipe comes from the McClure brothers’ great-grandmother, and she must have had a tongue of steel because these things don’t play around. So mostly we stick to the milder version, which exhibits bright, fresh flavors of garlic and dill. We especially love these pickles in relish form. But we’ve got to keep our hometown pride intact somehow, so we reserve them for burgers only. Available for $9.99 (pickles) or $5.99 (relish) at Olivia’s Market (2014 W Wabansia Ave between Damen and Hoyne Aves, 773-227-4220).
