MIXMASTER “Wine blending.” The words sound so simple, don’t they? As if all a winemaker has to do is pour a bit of cab and a bit of merlot into a bucket and start stirring. Of course, in reality, making a blended wine is much more complicated. Or is it? The Fusebox wine blending kit, which recently arrived at Just Grapes, makes the whole process seem pretty easy. The box comes with seven bottles of wine, directions for evaluating their characteristics and recipes to create blends of your own. Finally, there’s a “mystery” bottle in the kit, a blend whose identity you’ll supposedly be able to guess after making one of your own and that, as far as we can tell, is the only difficult thing in the whole box. $120 at Just Grapes, 560 W Washington Blvd between Clinton and Jefferson Sts (312-627-9463).
