    Time Out Chicago / Issue 166 : May 1–7, 2008

    Active culture club

You’d have to be living under a rock to miss the frozen-yogurt trend. Here’s our take on who’s best, plus a couple other new frozen treats on the scene.

    Wow Bao
    (175 W Jackson St, 312-334-6395)
The scoop Beating the trend by a few months, this Lettuce Entertain You Loop lunch spot unveiled its frozen yogurt in late January. The “plain” flavor can be topped with pomegranate-hibiscus, tangerine or ginger syrups, as well as crumbled black-sesame-and-toasted-pumpkin-seed snack bars.
The skinny One ounce contains 7 grams of carbs,
34 calories and 0.38 grams of fat.
The verdict There’s a nice tartness up front, which gives way to a touch of sweetness. The consistency is nearly perfect: creamy but light, with none of the gummy density of soft-serve ice cream. The flavor doesn’t lean toward vanilla or citrus but is pretty much what “white” would taste like if you could taste colors (acid trips aside).

TIP: The tasty nut cluster toppings can be found under the brand Mrs. May’s at Korean megastore Super H Mart (7801 N Waukegan Rd, Niles, 847-581-1212).

After reading about them in this week's TOC, I stopped by the Wow Bao at State and Lake... no frozen yogurt on the menu and when I asked about it I was faced with blank stares.
