Nothing brings out Chicago’s best chefs like a farmers’ market—except maybe a chance to barbecue with all that produce, then have the proceeds go to Green City Market. So say hi to Rick Bayless, Top Chef’s Stephanie Izard, and the rest of the city’s finest at the 2008 Chefs’ Summer BBQ Festival. $50–$60, kids $10. 6–8pm. South end of Lincoln Park. Tickets available at thespicehouse.com.

Local or organic? Farmed or wild? Food miles or carbon footprint? Trying to live sustainably is complicated, but Bill Kurtis—the anchorman and cattle rancher—will try to sort out green dilemmas in his talk, “Grain-fed vs. Grass-fed: What’s the Beef?” at the Chicago History Museum. He’ll also be signing copies of his book, The Prairie Table Cookbook. Free. 10–11:30am. 1601 N Clark St (312-642-4600).

Quick! Barbecue season is peaking! Head over to Logan Square before it’s too late! Okay, so this doesn’t really qualify as an emergency, but do you really need an excuse to taste 15 wines and snack on mini–cheddar burgers? Provenance Food & Wine pairs its goods with comfort foods from Rustik at this BBQ Food & Wines after-work party. $25. 6–9pm. 2515 N California Ave (773-235-0002).
