That lukewarm slice of Connie’s pizza at Wrigley just didn’t cut it, huh? Walk a few blocks south after the game to this outpost of the popular Madison, Wisconsin, by-the-slice joint for something more satisfying. The slices are foldable, New York–style thin crust, and you can order plain old cheese if you want, but you’ll probably want to get more creative. Ian’s is known for what we’ll call an artistic take on pizza: Its best-selling slice is the mac and cheese, made with a crème-fraîche base, elbow macaroni and housemade cheese sauce. (Though slightly bland, it’s not nearly as bad as it sounds.) Other slices that’ll help soak up all the suds postgame also tend to stray from a traditionalist’s idea of pizza—specialties include BBQ steak and fries, and the BBFAT (black bean spread topped with feta, avocado and tomato). You can create your own concoction, too, with toppings that include everything from lasagna noodles and ranch dressing to slices of baked potato. The lineup of about 30 slices changes daily, and Ian’s is open for lunch on afternoon game days. But if it’s postgame and you’re itching to hit a few Wrigleyville bars along the way, there’s no hurry—Ian’s closing times vary but average somewhere between 2:30 and 3:30am. Just choose your toppings carefully if you think there’s a chance you’ll be tasting them again in a few hours.
