Styling tips from fashion guru Danielle Lutz
Pack rats, rejoice Makeover shows love touting the “If you haven’t worn it in six months then ditch it” rule. Lutz begs to differ. “Ask yourself why you’re not wearing it,” she says. If it’s because it’s too small or beyond repair, then yes, it should be Goodwill-bound. “Otherwise, keep it around—things have a way of coming back in style or you might just find a new way to wear it.” Lutz recently made a ho-hum slip dress look insta-cool by wearing it inside out.
Blues clues Denim shopping is a lot like buying a swimsuit. “You have to try on a lot of pairs, but it’s worth it because you only need one amazing pair of jeans,” Lutz says. “Everyone—guys and girls—looks slimmer in a bootcut silhouette and dark rinse.”
Office polish No one ever climbed to the top of the corporate ladder wearing a hoodie. “Guys look preppy and professional in a V-neck sweater, in a nice material such as cashmere, over a button-up shirt,” Lutz says. “And women should have a nice cardigan on hand because everyone’s cubicle gets chilly.” One more thing, gals—invest in a tote bag that’s big enough for all of your paperwork. The bag-lady look screams disorganized, not promotion.
