    Making ’do

Save time with these quick post-workout hair styles.

    By Jessica Herman
    Photographs by Mireya Acierto

By the time we’ve squeezed a 50-minute workout into our jam-packed day, most of us have mere minutes to primp our lovely lady locks before jetting from the gym. Rather than simply succumbing to (a) getting everywhere late, (b) cutting our exercise time in half, or (c) looking like a wet rat, we took two hair stylists, John Benline and Bianca Uzarraga, from Bucktown’s Plateau Blu Salon and Day Spa (2064 N Western Ave, 773-227-8787) to David Barton Gym (600 W Chicago Ave, 312-836-9127) to see what kind of quick fixes they could offer to a couple of sweaty members.

Best for Shoulder-length straight or wavy hair
After blow-drying the hair for a few minutes (use your fingers to pull the hair in opposite directions to create volume), separate it into thirds (top, middle and bottom) from your crown to your neck. Securing the top section on the crown of the head with a clip, twist the center portion (it will naturally curl toward the head) and secure to the head with bobby pins; let the bottom third of the hair lie flat. Next, twist the bottom third, securing it under the first twist. Tease out the top third of the hair with a brush, and then split into two sections down the center part. Twist one half, securing it with pins next to the other two twists, and finally bring the remaining loose section of hair across the top of the head, and use pins to tuck the ends on the opposite side underneath the cluster of twists.
    Estimated time 7 minutes

    The braidy bunch
    Nicole Paprosky
Best for Long straight or wavy hair
Don’t bother washing your hair; sweat helps keep this style intact. From your natural part, take an inch-wide section of hair above the forehead, pulling the rest out of the way momentarily with a clip. After braiding about an inch down, unclip the remainder of your hair so it lies flat. Then start picking up wispies around the face and a few additional loose strands of hair with each section of the braid; in other words, as you work your way down, the weaving creates an inside-out, or French, braid. Continue braiding to whatever length you prefer, securing it to the head with a few bobby pins; tuck the rest of your loose hair into a bun or ponytail or leave it down.
    Estimated time 5 minutes
