Extension 720 with Milt Rosenberg WGN-AM 720 (Thu 15, 9–11pm). Richard Posner is the most prolific—and most cited—sitting judge. He’s written more books than there are seasons of Law & Order. His opinions are interesting to read, even for the nonlegal mind (in a recent opinion about horse meat in Illinois, he included a picture as well as an explanation of zoo animals receiving horse-meat cakes on their birthdays). And he even has a blog with fellow U. of C. professor Gary Becker (becker-posner-blog.com). While continuing his rapid-fire publication schedule (he has a new book out, How Judges Think), Posner sits down to chitchat with fellow U. of C. prof Milt Rosenberg about his work as a writer, professor and senior judge on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Live from the Lookingglass Theatre: Writers on the Record with Victoria Lautman WFMT-FM 98.7 (Sun 18, noon–1pm). Today’s broadcast is the final installment of the excellent Writers on the Record series. The guest today is Aleksandar Hemon, author of The Lazurus Project, but you may know him as “guy who’s been in every Chicago media outlet over the last few weeks.”
Re:sound WBEZ-FM 91.5 (Sat 17, 1–2pm). Today’s show explores the idea of repetition. And as boring as our worker-drone lives are (get up, check e-mail, get on CTA, gripe about CTA, work, get on CTA, gripe about CTA, get home, repeat), some people take repetitive behavior to an entirely different level. Consider the man who writes for four hours every day; he’s written more than 37 million words in his diary. Other stories chronicled include that of a factory worker and the songs that get stuck in his head, and a traveling artist who collects people’s mantras.
The Steve Cochran Show WGN-AM 720 (Tue 20, 4–7pm). Elizabeth Berkley might be stepping it up and dancing on her own Bravo show, but everyone knows that Mario Lopez is the Saved by the Bell star with the most wattage (minus Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s amazing turn as the gay porn star on Law & Order: SVU). Those familiar with Lopez’s body of work know that his body itself isn’t too bad looking. He visits Steve Cochran today to talk about his new book, Knockout Fitness.
Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! WBEZ-FM 91.5 (Sat 17, 10–11am). Brunch at Milk and Honey is good. So is sleeping in until 1pm. But the best way to start the weekend has got to be listening to WBEZ’s Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! If nothing else, tuning in guarantees you won’t be saying “huh?” when people start chattering about the latest campaign news at your Saturday-night cocktail party; you’ll know, because you heard the most important of the week’s news on the quiz bowl–style radio show. Regular panelists Roxanne Roberts, P.J. O’Rourke and Paul Provenza are on today’s show, with former Minnesota Gov. (and WWE star) Jesse Ventura in the “Not My Job” guest slot.
