Chicago ranked the 20th most well-read city in America

Chicagoans are great at a lot of things, but purchasing books, magazines and newspapers is not one of them. Amazon.com released its list of the most well-read cities in America today, and Chicago came in at just 20th. Seattle was first, Portland came in second and Las Vegas ranked third (mostly from adult novel purchases, obviously).

The ranking was determined by compiling book, magazine and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle format from April 2014 to April 2015 on a per capita basis. It's worth noting that New York, Los Angeles and Boston all failed to make the list, which must mean that we're more sophisticated than those phonies.

The data should be taken with a hefty grain of salt considering that it only includes sales from Amazon.com and doesn't take into account Chicago's fantastic public library system. Either way, books are groovy and everyone knows that all of the cool kids love reading.
