Master improvisers get serious with Stolen House

Six of the best improvisers in the country by pretty much any measure will take the stage at Victory Gardens next month to improvise a full-length play for four nights, apparently using the existing set and lights of the remount of Stupid Fucking Bird. The show, called Stolen House, will star David Pasquesi (TJ and Dave, Veep), Scott Adsit, John Lutz (both of 30 Rock fame), Stephnie Weir (MADtv, The Comedians), Bob Dassie (Weir's husband, who performs with her as WeirDass) and T.J. Jagodowski (TJ and Dave, those great Sonic commercials with Peter Grosz).

Though now spread across the country, all six performers are vets of Second City in Chicago. They previously performed Stolen House at New York's Barrow Street Theatre. Creator Stephen Ruddy, who directs the Upright Citizens Brigade's long-running show Gravid Water in New York and L.A., said in an announcement for Stolen House's Chicago run that "it looks like a traditional play—the audience would never know this wasn’t a scripted play, if we didn’t tell them…We didn’t want a piece that merely looked like a play; we wanted a piece that accomplished everything a great play accomplishes, but with the immediacy and danger of improv." Stolen House performs Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8 at 10:30pm and Sunday, August 9 and Monday, August 10 at 8pm; tickets are $24 and will go on sale soon at Victory Gardens' website.
