My favorite eggs benedicts in Chicago

The Chicago brunch scene has positively exploded in the last few years, overwhelming foodies with hundreds of choices to begin their weekends with. My favorite twists on the most classic of all brunch dishes, eggs benedict, should make a good starting point for brunchers of all levels of experience. In no particular order:

5.  The Nanadict at Nana in Bridgeport- Eggs benedict with a Latin flair. This version exchanges the ham for chorizo and the hollandaise for poblano cream, giving each mouthful just the perfect amount of heat to wake up your palate (and cure your hangover).

4.  Eggs New Orleans at Big Jones in Andersonville- Plenty of places do a crab cake benedict in this town, but no one else does it with tender, buttery popovers.  The “Potatoes O’Brien” served on the side are also not to be taken for granted, lending a good bit of crunch and spice.

3.  Short Rib Benedict at Sola in North Center- Sure, it's got a pretty awesome pesto hollandaise and fluffy cheddar biscuits, but the true star of this dish has got to be the melt-in-your-mouth short rib, which has been marinated in Pan-Asian inspired flavors like lemongrass and hoisin sauce.

2.  BLT Benedict at Public House in River North- This is such a smart combination that it really seems like a no brainer.  You've got bacon so thick it looks like bark from a bacon tree as the centerpiece, but weirdly the thing that makes this benedict work so well is the arugula, tomato, and onion salad on the side, which comes dressed in a bacon vinaigrette.

1.  Braised Pork Belly Benedict at Max's Wine Dive in Wicker Park- Speaking of ideas it's hard to believe no one had already thought of, this benedict comes dressed with a giardinera hollandaise, giving it that hit of tangy, vinegary goodness Chicago loves so much.  There's also nothing to hate about the succulent shredded pork belly at the base of the dish.
