The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Laugh away the rain at one of the city's best comedy showcases

After a gorgeous weekend, the rain is back. If the precipitation has you down and you're in need of some cheering up, head over to Beat Kitchen for Chicago Underground Comedy, one of the city's best weekly comedy shows. Each week features four or five different comics, many of whom will probably be a big deal some day. (Beat Kitchen, 2100 W Belmont Ave, 9:30pm. $5)

2. Learn about the history of Chicago's railroads

Chicago's rise during the Industrial Revolution came in large part due to the fact that it was the nation's largest railroad hub. In 1942, photographer Jack Delano documented America's railroads and rail workers as the nation entered World War II. About two-thirds of the 3,000 images he captured were from Chicago. The collection, titled "Railroaders," is on display at the Chicago History Museum, and is a must-see for anyone who is interested in the city's roots. (Chicago History Museum, 1601 N Clark St, 9:30am-4:30pm. $14)

3. Chill out to some groovy jazz

Every Tuesday, the Whistler in Logan Square hosts its Relax Attack Jazz Series featuring a rotating artist. This week is the Paul Bedal Quartet. Grab a tasty cocktail from the bar and calm your mind to some tranquil tunes. (The Whistler, 2421 N Milwaukee Ave, 9:30pm. Free)
