The Violet Hour is tossing out its rules for one night

Do the rules at the Violet Hour drive you insane? Does the no cellphone policy feel like a drag when your date is in the bathroom? You might want to think about heading to the iconic cocktail spot for a new quarterly event that rewrites the bar's rules.

On one night every three months the Violet Hour will be hosting a "Breaking the House Rules" series, where a local or national bar will host a takeover of the Wicker Park space and come up with an exclusive drink menu.

For the first event, Detroit's Sugar House will take over the Violet House on September 19th from 6pm–1am. There's still one signature Violet Hour rule in place for this event—no reservations. The first-come, first-served night will be headed up by Sugar House's Jason Leinart and Yani Moraitis Frye. All cocktails will be $10, including few Sugar House classics like the EFK, an old-fashioned with black tea-infused bourbon, lemon simple syrup, Angostura bitters and smoked using cherry hickory wood. Other cocktails will include twists on a whiskey sour and Manhattan—and these are just a few of the offerings. Get ready and make sure your phones are charged, it'll be one of the only chances you'll get to take photos inside the velvet-covered Violet Hour.
