The winter killed the food kiosks in old newsstands

The winter has claimed another victim. After spending three months decimating Chicago's collective morale, the cold weather caused the four downtown food kiosks located in converted newspaper stands, dubbed e.a.t. spots, to close.

A post on the e.a.t. spots's Facebook page earlier this month read, "Due to the significant impact this winter has had on our business, e.a.t. spots will be closing all four locations after Friday, March 6th."

The stands served healthy, local options and had a selections of wraps by former Frontera Grill chef Shaw Lash.

In any case, it looks like Chicago will have to find a new use for those old newspaper stands—it almost certainly won't be for the sale of print publications.
