A Benefit for the Tamms “Year Ten” Campaign
Description
Tonight's a benefit for a coalition that publicizes and protests the conditions at Tamms C-MAX prison in Illinois. On the bill tonight is Elmore James Jr. as well as openers Rupert, Jaimie Branch, Marc Riordan and Toby Summerfield. James, long a staple of (what was left of) the South Chicago blues scene, has just recently reemerged with a new album, Daddy Give Me the Blues, on the U.K.-based JSP label. Produced by Cadillac Zach, the album keeps it real with a nonslick sound. And even then, James's slightly detuned guitar stands out from the rest of the band like a chitlin on a caviar plate.
