Second City's 95th mainstage revue feels like driving through Kansas—you can see something fantastic on the horizon, but for now things are mostly flat, marginally entertaining and ultimately forgettable. With a framework in which questions are posed directly to the 2008 political candidates, the peppy cast explores tanking real-estate values, a never-ending Iraq war and the Internet's takeover of office culture. (The latter made way for the best line of the night, via newbie Emily Wilson: “I don't want to be your MySpace friend because I don't want to be your real friend.”) Still, nothing in this revue toes—let alone walks—the line where passable ends and definitive sketch begins. After all, isn't bold comedy what SC is known for? As Joe Canale says, at the end of a Cubs-themed musical interlude, “There's always next year.”
