Description
Made up of veterans of fringe local rock (Butchershop Quartet, Magnolia Electric Co.), /Arriver combines the compositional discipline of Iron Maiden with the prog artiness of Slint. In one typical sequence, harmonized guitar solos accompany a cappella sea chanteys before drummer Bill Murphy drives the whole relentless engine. A little spazzy, a whole lot of stylish, Stanley Ross takes the Midwest's love affair with power-pop to even more deliriously affected levels, which isn't nearly as annoying as you might think. In fact, his Favorites is pretty good stuff.
