Description
Sonically, little sets Laura Veirs apart from a host of other singer-songwriters, but her good aesthetic taste and lyrical smarts help her stay afloat in a mass of sensitive acoustic strummers. Those qualities alone couldn't save her last album, Saltbreakers, but as a live performer Veirs's stage presence generally overcomes her studio deficiencies. Opening is current hardest-working-Kiwi-in-rock (Flight of the Conchords are “folk,” mind you) Liam Finn, son of Crowded House's Neil, who makes a worthy successor to dad's Beatle-disciple legacy. His solo bow, I'll Be Lightning, lulls with gentle psychedelics and daybreak harmonies.
