Elliott founded Time Out in 1968 with £70 during his summer break from Keele University. Nearly 40 years later, the Time Out Group brings in nearly £35m per year. Time Out London (88,279 per week-ABC July-December 2004) and Time Out New York (133,730 per week-ABC July-December 2004), together with an extensive guidebook division and website (timeout.com-The World's Living Guide), have established the Time Out brand worldwide. Licensed editions of Time Out are published as weeklies in Moscow and Tel Aviv, semimonthly in Mumbai and St. Petersburg, and monthly in Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Shanghai, Cyprus, Dubai, Istanbul and Mexico City. Time Out visitors' guides are also published under license in South Africa and Argentina. Elliott never finished his university studies; nor has he ever been employed by anyone.
