Kris Vire
THEATER WRITER
COVERS:Previews and reviews of touring companies, local institutions and fringe theater.
As a freelance theater reviewer since TOC's launch, Vire has haunted Chicago's out-of-the-way storefront spaces for years. He's seen plays performed in bars, warehouses, train cars and a swimming pool, not to mention every room of the Athenaeum and the Theatre Building. Now a full-time staff member with a cubicle and everything, he gets to hang out with the cool kids at TOC all day. Vire first experienced the intersection of theater and journalism in high school, where he edited the school paper by day and performed in plays by night. He chose a theater major over journalism at the University of Arkansas, but he's delighted to combine the two all these years later. Vire was a founding staff member in 2003 of GapersBlock.com, the pioneering Chicago news and culture website.
Ask me about: The most overproduced plays in the city, getting to any theater on
the CTA, and why plays performed in bars are a total win-win.
