Bonny's opens in Logan Square

As the general manager of the Boiler Room (which opened in Logan Square a few months back), Andy Gould was looking for a bar to drink at once his closed. So he started hanging out at a dark dive with late-night hours around the corner. Few knew its name (Boni’s), and even when Gould clarified that it was “that bar next to the Whistler,” it was so off-the-radar that most still had no idea what he was talking about. But he and Russ Grant (Boiler Room and Simone’s owner) dug the place—and the 4am license—and worked out a deal with the owner to take it over. They threw a party to clear out the liquor shelves (“There was so much random stuff,” Gould says), then started bringing in the craft beers and spirits like those on deck at Grant’s other spots. Still, the pair aren’t taking it too far from its dive-bar history. PBR is on tap for three bucks, and the cocktails are all classics—Aviations, gin flips, Negronis. No “chardonnay, simple syrup or rose water,” Gould says. “Just a good drink.” 2417 N Milwaukee Ave, 773-486-8480. Sun–Fri 10pm–4am; Sat 10pm–5am.
