Sure, you can just pour vodka down your ice luge. (We used North Shore Distillery's vodka.) But it's more fun to make specialty shots that taste best chilled, which the trip down the luge will take care of. Here are two easy recipes from two of our favorite Chicago bartenders.

Thermal Velocity from Danny Shapiro of Scofflaw:
1 oz Death's Door gin
1 oz El Dorado 3-year rum
¾ oz lime
¾ oz simple syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters

Directions: Shake together and strain into shot glasses.

Fools Rush In from Paul McGee of Three Dots and a Dash:
1 oz vodka
1 oz  light rum
1 oz pineapple juice
½ oz blue curaçao
½ oz lime juice
¼ oz simple syrup

Directions: Shake together and strain into shot glasses.
