Tortas Frontera, now open in Chase Plaza

If you don't work on the eastern edge of the Loop, you may not be familiar with the wonders and joys of the cafeteria in Chase Plaza. Technically called Plaza Market Bistro Urban Market, but colloquially referred to as "that cafeteria in the basement of that building with the slanted edge," it's a mash-up of all sorts of cheap, quick foods, like salads (my choice), pizza (my colleague Julia Kramer's choice), burgers, soup, pot roast, chicken and Rick Bayless's tortas.
Did I say Rick Bayless's tortas? Oh yes I did: The chef opened another location of his quick-service Mexican sandwich shop (the first two locations of the Eat Out Award–winning restaurant are located at O'Hare) in Plaza Urban Market yesterday. Tortas should not be confused with XOCO—the two are quite different, and actually stem from different companies (Tortas is part of Frontera Foods, the company that produces Bayless's chips and salsas). But though you won't find churros or house-churned soft serve, you'll still find sandwiches, a guacamole bar and, in the morning, a Mexican yogurt-and-granola station. Which is a lot better than you can do in most other corners of this culinarily-challenged corner of the Loop. (Note to the west side of the Loop: Watch your back.)
