With the Chicago Teachers Union strike still going full-force, and no deal on the table, Chicago teachers and their supporters took to the streets of the Loop on Tuesday, as they did Monday just before rush hour. That was one energetic crowd down there today, and while it's only day two, it's hard to see at this point the union bending much.

What we saw in the Loop were smiling teachers ready to roll, dancing to the various drummers in the march.  One protestor gave us a very pleasant and teacherly explanation of the controversial "management clause" in the district's offer, which allows management to change the contract after it's been signed. The crowd also reacted strongly to CTU president Karen Lewis's remarks, especially when she said: "We have more in common with our children, and our parents, than we do with these rich people who think they know better." And when Chicago Firefighters Union president Tom Ryan stood and proclaimed his union stood in solidarity with teachers, you could feel the roar of the crowd in your bones.

Some of our favorite slogans on protestors' signs included "Ruck Fahm," "McKayla Maroney Is Not Impressed (by Rahm)," "Send our kids to Estonia? At least they have computers there," "Hey RAHM-ney, how many students in your kids' classrooms?" "I don't want a BMW, just books," "Fighting to make CPS a district Rahm would send his kids to," "I'm spending my honeymoon on strike," and "Clas size does matter."
