Gerber turned this...

It's difficult to not suffer a touch of hat envy by the time the Kentucky Derby, which airs this Saturday, May 5, enters the starting gates. So we couldn't resist posting this fun project direct from the Bluegrass State.

Louisville, Kentucky-based mom Stephanie Gerber, who posts budget-friendly ideas for stylish moms on her blog Henry Happened, shared with TOCK this step-by-step process for crafting newspaper derby hats for kids. Check it out in the slideshow above to create fabulous cranium accouterments with your kiddos ahead of the big race. Oh, and we dare you to not squeal at the adorbs pics of Gerber's kids Henry and Caroline.

On your mark....get set...go!
