Kidzapalooza 2011 lineup announced
Tue May 10 2011
If you’re like the other Lolla fans we know, you’ve been trying to rationalize ways to take your kids to see Eminem and Deadmau5 ever since the official lineup was announced two weeks ago. We’ve got you covered.
The official Kidzapalooza (Lolla’s family-friendly fest within the fest) lineup was released today and organizers are promising family favorites, plus loads of surprises to mark the fest’s 20th anniversary. Kidzapalooza co-founder Tor Hyams’ kids, Sydnie and Lyon announced the lineup via this highly entertaining video.
Here’s the full lineup, which includes solid old faves and new, local talent:
Big Bang Boom
The Q Brothers
Peter DiStefano & Tor
Northbrook Garage (a local kid band)
Kate Diaz (a 14-year-old local singer)
The Happiness Club
Of course the stage lineup is only part of the allure of Kidzapalooza, a shady respite from the sweaty masses of Lollapalooza. The family fest is known for unannounced appearances (Slash, Patti Smith, LeAnn Rimes, Lolla founder Perry Farrell).
Hyams promises the 20th anniversary will offer more surprises, and a visit from Farrell.
If crowd surfing at the Foo Fighters show gets old, Kidza also offers plenty of activities to keep your little rockers in the mood. Highlights include a hip hop workshop where aspiring MCs can learn how to scratch, neatbox and rhyme and take home their recording; a salon for mini neon mohawks and temporary tats, hip hop dance workshops, drum circles, double Dutch jump roping and big giveaways at the end of every day; plus, thanks to TOCK's exclusive photo booth, every kid can take home a color print of themselves rocking out on the cover of Time Out Chicago Kids.
As always, Lolla will be free to kids under 10. Tickets for the Aug. 5–7 concert are available at lollapalooza.com.
