Here's a list of concerts this weekend featuring Irish music just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

Friday 15

The Drovers
Abbey Pub, 6pm and 10pm, $15–$20
For a while there the Drovers simmered on the brink of a national breakthrough, but then…the band broke up. Now the reconfigured group, which at its best transformed traditional Irish music into something loosely psychedelia, is back, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

Switchback
Mayne Stage, 8pm, $30–$40
A Celtic-tinged Americana duo, Switchback has a good thing going on, playing jammy pop-rock with high-low harmonies reminiscent of Squeeze. Here they provide the tunes for "A Reel Chicago Saint Patrick's Celebration" at Mayne Stage.

Gaelic Storm
House of Blues, 9pm, $36
We actually can't think of a more fitting name for the bevy of St. Paddy's performances this time of year, but this Gaelic Storm is a band that fuses traditional Celtic forms, both Irish and Scottish.

Saturday 16

Megon McDonough & Susan O'Halloran
Bodhi Spiritual Center, 7:30pm, advance $15; day of show $20
The Lincoln Park spiritual center offers Irish stories and songs from two local talents.

Paddy Horman
Wilmette Theatre, 8pm, $25; advance $22
We sort of love that famed Irish tenor Paddy Homan bares the same name as the green-beer guzzling, highly misinterpreted March observation that essentially bankrolls the rest of his fiscal year. Here you're in for an evening of traditional Celtic tunes.

The Tossers + Kevin Flynn & The Avondale Ramblers + The Blind Staggers + Continental
Metro, 9pm, advance $18; day of show $20
St. Patrick's Day always means a rollicking performance from Chicago's Celtic punk Tossers, even if it is a day before the fact. Is it sometimes more about sweaty, alcohol-fueled spectacle than music? Sure, we suppose, but we'd never say that directly to the band's face, not tonight, because we like our own too much.

Sunday 17

Up Ya Boyo
AJ Hudson's Public House, 3pm
Raise a green pint (or three) to the acoustic, sing-along Celtic ditties of Up Ya Boyo.

Sharon Shannon Band
City Winery, 8pm, $35–$50
Irish folk artist Sharon Shannon brings stellar accordion- and fiddle-playing to City Winery for St. Paddy's.
