    Description
The motto of Crust, Michael Altenberg’s hotly anticipated, certified-organic pizzeria, is "Eat Real." Eat simple and good is more like it, as that’s the general take on straightforward salads composed of impeccably fresh vegetables; tender pulled pork topped with crunchy slaw on soft housemade brioche and flanked by sweet beet chips; and the pizza (appearing on the menu as "flatbreads"), which has a bubbly, half-inch–thick crust that is slightly, pleasantly chewy. When it is topped with béchamel, caramelized onion, bacon and caraway seeds—like the "Flammkuchen" is—it can be very good. A simple bowl of raspberries for dessert reiterates the unadulterated agenda.

We went to Crust with very high expectations, were told that we would have a 30-40 minute wait, and then waited one hour and fifteen minutes. The drinks were great (though expensive) and the bar staff were personable and fun to talk with. We were told that for our extra long wait we would receive a free dessert, but at the end of the meal we were brought out a piece of very dry chocolate cake, without ever being asked which of the four menu dessert choices we would like. The most offensive part of the meal was our ordering process. Our group of four had decided on both starters and three "flat breads" to order. Immediately, our waitress said in a condescending tone, "can I ask why you would order that pizza (the wild herb and cheese)?" Basically, I felt bullied into thinking some of our choices were bad. We ended up only ordering two pizzas (oops flat breads), which were mediocre at best. I will say that the buffalo mozzarella salad was tasty, but the soup was also only average. If you want a good, slightly different, pizza experience I would stick with Piece!
