    Masala Yangu (CLOSED)

    Prices

    Average main course: $15.

    Description
Housed incongruously within a colonial-type Naperville mansion, Masala Yangu administers a serious smack in the taste buds with a range of East African dishes reflecting both Middle Eastern and Indian influences. Calvin and Rahila Young balance delicious meats like charbroiled lamb and minced beef with hefty sides of pan-fried spinach, kale and cumin-laced cauliflower. When Calvin asks if you’d like sauces, say yes—the lemony pilli pilli is mind-blowing. Feeling dexterous? Order ugali, a corn paste used as an eating implement to scoop foods. A run at the lunch buffet clocks in under $10 and provides a solid overview of the menu.

My wife and I ate dinner at Masala Yangu on an evening they had live Brazillian music (Bosa Tres). We got a chance to dance after we ate Nyama Choma (Charbroiled Lamb) and MBooga (Vegetable Sampler).

I've never had South African wine until I visited Masala Yangu. The choice of wine and Pineapple Cheesecake topped off my night well. I can't wait to return and sample more of the Swahili dishes.
