As soon as the clock strikes 6pm, twentysomethings jockey to get through the MCA’s freshly unlocked doors. Women quickly shed coats to reveal skin-tight cocktail dresses. Men—who seem to outnumber the ladies—come in hip, slim-fitting duds and the occasional flannel. Nearly everyone makes a beeline to the bar for cocktails in candy–inspired flavors. Once loosened up by a few drinks, much of the mostly hetero, handsome, straitlaced crowd apply colored, circular stickers to their chests. According to the MCA’s clever First Fridays’ hook—“the world’s only iMac G5 digital dating bar”—the colors depict personality type and compatibility. While that might be pure fiction, it gets single-heavy cliques mingling and, no doubt, reeling in the grand prize: some new numbers in their iPhones. The next First Fridays program takes place March 4, 6–10pm. 220 E Chicago Ave (312-397-4010, mcachicago.org). $18, advance $13, MCA members $10.—Madeline Nusser
