Street cred “Beautiful hair has always been my passion,” Zafiriadis says. Hailing from Europe (Athens, to be exact), Zafiriadis came to Chicago in 1983 and started practicing his craft. He’s trained throughout the country as well as London and Paris, and opened Salon Buzz (1 E Delaware Pl, 312-943-5454) in 1998. A second location opened in River North (310 W Superior St) in 2002; Zafiriadis works at both outposts. Sticking to his passion, he says he decided to open the salon to “bring the sophistication, superb client care and beautiful craftsmanship of the world’s capitals to our beautiful city.” His specialty is women’s dry haircuts. “They allow me to be precise and thorough, but also achieve a current and unique look,” he says.

Why we love him Reader April Francis alerted us to Zafiriadis via Twitter. “His style is completely sophisticated without a touch of pretension,” says Francis, who’s been a client for about four years. She not only has praise for the stylist (“His technical skill is unmatched”), but also his entire staff. “His are the best salons in town staffed with the best and brightest, from reception to colorists,” she says. Plus, Francis (who’s also a clothing stylist) has witnessed Zafiriadis work his magic outside the salon. “He can transform a basic bob into about a hundred different looks—I’ve seen him do it on a shoot.” Cuts by Zafiriadis at Salon Buzz start at $115.
