Borris Powell

This local designer made a national splash in 2011 when he won the official Oscar Designer Challenge with his Black Swan–inspired evening gown. (The dress was worn on the red carpet at that year’s ceremony.) Since then, Powell has moved his showroom and retail space from Lakeview to a new location in the West Loop. The new space features his ready-to-wear collection (tops start at $80; dresses are $180 and up). Customers can also stop by to order custom-made pieces.
