Monica + Andy

When Monica Royer's daughter was born, she couldn't find clothes that fit her well that were also made of high-quality materials. So with a knack for design and guidance from her brother Andy Dunn, founder of the successful men's clothing line Bonobos, Royer took it upon herself to create a line that featured clothing and accessories that were free of lead, phthalates and flame-retardants and made with soft, durable fabrics.

The Monica + Andy Guide Shop, opening Saturday in Lincoln Park, is a showroom for Monica + Andy gear: cuddly newborn blankets, trendy tutu dresses and adorable Gatsby-era seersucker short suits. You will also find toddler hair accessories, melamine plates and children's books—all created by local moms as part of Monica + Andy's "Mommy Marketplace."

In fact, a big mission of the brand is to employ talented moms who have already worked together to design the store, continuously test the products, and help Royer create a family-friendly experience both in-store and online.

In the back of the store, you'll find a healthier spin on a milk and cookie bar: rice or almond milk and plant-based Hillary's Cookies. There are also plans to host a variety of music classes, storytime, mommy and baby yoga, and other child-centered events.

For shoppers in a hurry, the store will offer curbside pickup and payment for those who call ahead with a gift order. There will also be an onsite concierge to assist with picking out the perfect gifts, like its newborn cuddle boxes that the store will deliver straight to the delivery room.

But more than anything, the store aims to be a place where moms feel comfortable. Small touches like a nursing room and changing table make it easy for moms to stop in often, whether it's to peruse the shop, grab milk and cookies with their kids, or attend a class or event.

Pop in this weekend, June 21 and 22, for the store's grand opening with toddler yoga, kids projects and classes, and music from children's singer Miss Aimee Leigh. There will also be milk and cookies, of course, and a preview of the new summer collection.
