The Vic Theatre
Known to Chicagoans as the Vic, this larger-size club is easy to get to via train and hosts a variety of rock acts (we’ve seen everything from Sonic Youth to Julian Casablancas here). It has a good number of 18-and-older and all-ages shows. If you’re 21, be sure to also check out Brew and View, where movies are shown and the heckles from the audience are usually more entertaining than what’s onscreen.

I spent many nights in college waiting in the cold, wet alleyway next door just to snag a spot near the front. Now, of course, I realize that one of the best assets of the Vic is its terraced floor; you can squeeze in wherever and still have a great spot—assuming you're OK with the noisy bar and its oddly bright neon signage. The quality of the booking at the Vic is just insane considering how intimate the venue still feels. Close proximity to public transit is always a plus.
