4 unbelievably expensive rentals in Chicago

Affordable is not the name of the game this week in our Chicago apartments feature. It's luxury.

Say you won the lottery. What kind of apartment would you rent in Chicago?

This is exactly the scenario we posed to our cohorts over at Zumper. And they answered with four apartments that scream of excess. It's hard to believe many of these places are regularly sought after as rentals, but nonetheless, they are, and they'll likely be nabbed up soon. Be forewarned, these flats aren't for the faint of budgets.

55 E Erie St, Suite #SH: $19,500/month

By far and large our most expensive listing, this four-story townhouse sits princely on the 12th floor. Of course, it has a gigantic, private roof deck. Of course, there's a private elevator. Of course, the ceiling in the den is brilliantly coffered. All surfaces, whether marble, tile or hardwood, gleam with an iridescent shine. One might scoff at the paltry three bedrooms and 4.5 baths, but their lavish treatment makes it worth the exorbitant, monthly price tag—if you're a millionaire.

210 E Walton Place, Suite #A: $12,500/month

One would not expect a circular staircase to gracefully sweep up all three floors of this dramatic estate, for the exterior is modest at best. Yet, beyond the doors of the home just off the Magnificent Mile lies 4,400 square feet of anything but modesty. Throughout the home are warm exemplars of contemporary modern style, with soft colors, light hardwood floors and gentle, inlaid ceilings in each of the spacious rooms. The bathrooms are to die for, and out back is a cloistered pool set away from public view.
