Bad news: The 606 will not be opening this fall
The revamped Bloomingdale Trail's delay counts as yet another thing to blame on the polar vortex
Fri Jun 20 2014
As if you needed more reason to curse the brutality of this past winter, it's now responsible for pushing back the opening of The 606 till June 2015. Originally slated to open this fall, the 2.7-mile park and trail system that's taking over an abandoned railway has been delayed due to frozen ground and a spring that never really arrived, according to a Tribune story posted last night.
To soften the blow, officials announced the addition of a 4-acre park along the trail in Logan Square, a neighborhood seriously lacking in green space. So when's that going to open? In two freakin' years. Patience, people. Patience.
