It wouldn't be a new season of television without another legal drama gracing the small screen. With Made in Jersey, creator Dana Calvo attempts to spice up tired courtroom drama by adding a spunky, street-smart Jersey girl to the mix, but the result is blander than ever.

Martina Garretti (Janet Montgomery) isn't like the other lawyers at her high-class firm. She didn't go to an Ivy League school and she doesn't have a closet full of power suits. She's much more at home chatting with the office secretary (Toni Trucks). But Martina is smart and she's hungry. When she gets a golden opportunity to help a young college student accused of murder, she hits the streets to investigate the case and quickly puts her colleagues to shame with her hard work.

Montgomery is an incredibly charming performer and she does her best to bring Martina to life, but the dialogue is so awful that there's only so much she can do to elevate the show. While Martina does some interesting groundwork to put her case together, the big bombshell moments are reserved for Legally Blonde-esque insights into fashion choices that somehow magically reveal the innocence of accused murderers. Fortunately, all the people she's asked to defend in the pilot episode are young women with scrappy backgrounds similar to her own. If the law firm starts taking on middle-aged male clients, Martina and Made in Jersey will be out of luck.

Made in Jersey airs Fridays at 8pm on CBS.
