Oh, Susanna: Michigan Avenue editor rejoins Sun-Times

Susanna Negovan, the editor who launched Michigan Avenue magazine and put it on the Chicago media map, is returning to the newspaper where she began her career.

After four years as editor-in-chief of the glossy upscale publication, Negovan has been hired to develop and oversee new media projects for Wrapports LLC, which owns the Chicago Sun-Times. She is expected to join the company’s leadership team in the next few weeks and will report to Sun-Times Media CEO Tim Knight.

During more than seven years as a freelance columnist and woman about town for the Sun-Times, Negovan wrote Susanna’s Night Out, a weekly page spotlighting local fundraisers, society soirees and retail openings. She also wrote the weekly feature Shopping With Susanna.

Calling it “a new day at Sun-Times Media,” Negovan said: “I’m beyond excited to join Wrapports and return to the place that launched my career 11 years ago.”

Negovan is the second high-profile editor to rejoin the Sun-Times under its new ownership. Jim Kirk, who worked as a business reporter for the paper in the mid-’90s, returned last week as senior vice president and editor-in-chief of Sun-Times Media, overseeing content for all 40 of the company’s publications and its digital properties. He most recently had been chief of editorial operations at Crain’s Chicago Business.

A graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Negovan also was vice president and director of corporate communications at Chicago-based Cramer-Krasselt advertising, and a frequent contributor to the former WCKG. She is married to Tom Negovan, a reporter and fill-in news anchor at WGN-TV.

Michigan Avenue magazine, owned by New York-based Niche Media Holdings, is published eight times a year and boasts an audited circulation of 65,000.
