    • The closest stop to Chicago on the Smashing Pumpkins 20th-anniversary tour is the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana, which prompts the question: What ultra-hip venue will Billy Corgan and Co. be rocking on their next outing?

    Description
So much is historic about this hotel. In less than two weeks after its 1871 opening, the Palmer House burned to the ground in the Chicago Fire. In just two years later, it was up and running, making it the longest continuously operating hotel in America. The opulent Beaux Arts lobby showcases museum-worthy frescoes and displays a mural by 19th-century artist Louis Pierre Rigal. Even the brownies are inspired by history, used with a recipe invented by the hotel chef in 1893. *High-speed internet ($6/hr wireless in public spaces; $10 via cable in rooms).
