Along with other anniversaries for China, 2009 marks one century since the first visit of Victor Segalen, the French novelist, poet, archaeologist and art-historian, to the country.

The Bookworm’s writer-inresidence, the Australian poet John Mateer, who has been in Beijing to investigate Segalen, will present a personal response to Segalen’s inspiring work.
